It’s a big call, but I think Bellingen may be the prettiest country
town on the North Coast. It has all of the ingredients I love about our North Coast
towns and villages – heritage buildings; colourful, eclectic characters;
creative streetscapes; lush landscape and river; vintage wares and an abundance
of fresh, locally grown food served up at markets and cafes.
These photos are snapshots from a quick visit to town on my recent
road trip, before the floods. The best part of the day was meeting up for tea and cake with Cath before
my friend and I headed into town and wandered around, had a bite to eat then a
bevvie at the historic Federal Hotel.
We picked up some fresh ingredients from the Bellingen Green Grocers to take back home for dinner and as we were leaving town, local muso,
John May, was warming up on the banjo for the Saturday “Bello Sessions” held at
Kombu Wholefoods … A timeless country
scene.
A couple of hours at bellissimo “Bello” was
not nearly enough; I’ll be back for more.

* Did you see notice the "edible streetscapes" photo? This is such a fantastic project, I wish every town in Australia had something like this going on... Find out more about that project here.

Gorgeous, makes me want to run from work desk straight to Bellingen. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteGreat day trip. Could easily go back for more. Loved the Vintage Store and Cafe even though it was closed by the time we strolled into town. It looked spectacular from the window. Veg burger we had for lunch was wonderful. Jamie xx

ReplyDeleteHello Megan, thanks giving me the heads up on your beautiful post, with such gorgeous photos. Cath and I and a few thousand other folk are extremely lucky to be living here, Scott and I still often shake our heads in delight, that we have the honour of living here. Please let me know when you are coming to visit next time, would love to have a tea with you. Such a beautiful blog. xxx (Thanks Jodi for hooking us up).
ReplyDeleteCan vouch for Jay's blog - beautiful images there too. Can also vouch for the Irish sessions - they were cracking today despite the rain...some of the best tunes I have heard. Great to see the sunshine in the photos - reminds me that it does come out sometimes :) Feel very blessed to be living here, working here, and sharing this space with such a vibrant and beautiful community xo
ReplyDeleteshhh... don't tell anyone about our amazing little town! we've been here a year now, had the pleasure of 3 floods, a river festival, awesome music (hooray for the mid north), awesome food (hooray for kombu, no 5 church st, the growers markets and the new fortnightly bellopy markets, notto mention the community gardens, not to mention some of the most open hearted, community minded, socially and ecologically minded people around... oh dear, i'm giving too much away now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat little town! :)
