"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Melody: Back-to-school haircut. Just a few more days now before this girl is a first-grader!

Maddison: Bed-hair and pony-mania. I seriously don't know how we have amassed so many plastic ponies, most as gifts, but they are everywhere I look. She loves them so much I can't bring myself to go on one of my anti-plastic toy tirades... The ponies are here to stay.

We are hunkered down here at The Byron Life HQ as the big wet hits. Ex-cyclone Oswald has thrashed North Queensland with six tornadoes so far and the low has headed our way. In the space of a few days the weather has transformed from the driest, hottest summer we've had for many years into the non-stop cyclonic rains and heavy winds typical of the season.Ah, the tropics. Always intense.

Looks like we will be indoors for the next few days at least, so I'm planning on keeping the girls busy with a lot of crafting and baking. Melli received some terrific crafty kits as presents for her birthday in the new year and they are being put to good use now. Yesterday the little ones painted "sun-catchers" (wishful thinking?) and today we will road-test another gift - cute bug-shaped silicon baking molds.

I am looking forward to school returning. There, I've said it! As much as I love that we have had a long summer holiday together, I think we are all going a tad stir-crazy in this little house and needing to get back to a routine of sorts. This rain is not helping with the stir-crazies...

Hope you're safe and dry and not going stir-crazy wherever you are!

x
Megan

  1. Oswald has left us alone now - leaving behind big patches of sticking mud, piles of washing and that horrible smell that the chicken pen gets in the wet. Also being nicely steamed here today as the sun shows it's face.
Hope the rain doesn't cause any damage to you!

  2. It's been crazy weather hasn't it, the rain and wind not letting up much at all. Keep safe we're staying indoors too, a nice relaxing way to end the school holidays I think. I hope your big girl enjoys Grade one she must be getting very excited now. x

  7. oh, that haircut pic is reminding me of the fact that I should probably get my little's haircut too...it's just that I've been putting it off because it'll be her first and i thought i wasn't that sentimental about it, but turns out i am!

    1. I felt the same way with all three girls. My littlest had her very first cut the day after this photo was taken - cut by me! Have saved a ringlet :)

  8. Love your photos, Megan. Those ponies have become a classic, like Barbie. Keep them all and sell some as vintage in about 30 years:) Enjoy the last day of school holidays and send some of that rain down our way - we've had some but so minimal. Stay dry! x

    1. Wish I could send you the rain! It's excessive right now.
My inner- hoarder likes your "vintage pony" idea... But can I live with them for 30 years? Doubt it!
