My friend had collected some pretty doilies that were just the right size to embelish some of those basic items in every baby's wardrobe - singlets and onesies.
The process is straightforward:
1. Select the doily to match the garment.
2. Pin into place at the centre and on each of the doily points. Don't stretch the fabric too much.
3. Using a zig-zag stitch set on a long length (on my machine the longest is 4) sew the doily in place beginning with the centre.
4. Then, starting at the top "point" of the doily, zig-zag your way around the entire doily. And that's it. You're done.
5. This is what my stitching looked like underneath to give you an idea of the stitch I used.
When I delivered these back to my friend her baby was fast asleep - so no modelling of these today. I'll try to snap a pic next time I see her, or better still, I might have to make some for Maddison and photograph her.
What a great idea! I just finished knitting a little jumper and it needs a little somepin sompin on the front to make it pop! your little tops look ace!

These are the sweetest! How do you think they'll hold up in the wash?
ReplyDeleteWendy - The doilies are attached strongly, but I still think these will have to be hand-washed and then ironed. Which will suit my friend because she is absolutely immaculate with her kids' clothing.
ReplyDeleteAs for us... I'm not so big on the ironing! I might give one a whirl for Maddi anyway and just see how it goes - they do look pretty cute ;)
I like the grey singlet best - looks gorgeous and old-fashioned.
ReplyDeleteI like the grey one best too..I think finding different doilies to just look right on particular bits of clothing would be a lot of fun! If you sew them on in the right places so they don't get room to crinkle up as much they would look alright without having to iron so much...what do you think?
ReplyDeletesimple but brilliant :)
ReplyDeleteOh that last one is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing idea! I have a ton of dollies that need using up, perfect!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Would love to see one on a baby...
ReplyDeleteOh these are just adorable! A friend has just found out she is having TWIN girls (her first pregnancy also!) and these look perfect (and pretty straight forward) that I might give them a go for the baby shower.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
:)
